Walkthrough
  1. 1
The "Charon" Ship: Upon arriving, collect your belongings from the table. This includes the Letter from J. van der Berg (obtained by taking the briefcase), the Camera (a usable item for taking pictures as evidence), and your Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until an "eyeball" symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine it. You will also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds. Remember to reload your weapon by holding L1, selecting the gun, and pressing Square.
  2. 2
Additional Evidence on the Ship: Use your camera to photograph the Photo of a trophy plate (a strange fish mounted on the wall). Examine the Flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings.
  3. 3
Lootables: Search the locker to the right of the desk. Lootable objects provide ammunition and crafting materials and reset when you leave and return to the area.
  4. 4
Conversation with Johannes van der Berg: Exit the ship by pressing Triangle to climb onto the dock. Initiate a conversation with Johannes van der Berg. To advance the game, select the following dialogue options: "About my problem.", "Where is Robert Throgmorton?", "I need somewhere to stay.", "How do I get to Devil's Reef?", and finally, "Goodbye." Choosing other options will lock you out of certain dialogue branches.
  5. 5
Finding Robert Throgmorton: Proceed north along the pier and turn right at the sign pointing to a bar and an "exit." Ascend the stairs to automatically begin a conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
  6. 6
Conversation with Robert Throgmorton: To advance the game, select: "What happened to your son?", "Who are the Innsmouthers?", "What do you know about the visions?", "I can try to find Albert.", "Tell me more about the case.", and "I'll be going." Other dialogue options are optional but do not affect game progression.
  7. 7
Optional: Lifeboat Titania Investigation: If you ask Robert Throgmorton about the lifeboat, return to the sign and go left down a path, then left towards the sea. The lifeboat is beyond police barricades. Collect the following optional evidence: inspect the TITANIA nameplate, examine the Diving Helmet (rotate it and look at the front faceplate, but do not hold it for too long due to sanity drain), and pick up Albert Throgmorton's will from a seat inside the lifeboat (press Triangle to climb inside). Returning Albert's will to Robert unlocks an additional conversation.
Tips
  • The Submachine Gun and .45 ABP rounds are a bonus for the Necronomicon Edition or DLC owners. Use the initial clip sparingly as .45 ABP rounds are scarce early on.
  • Consider investing the free Skill Point (if applicable) into the Absolute Clarity Mind skill for a 5% XP bonus.
  • Lootable objects can be repeatedly searched for ammunition and crafting materials. Be cautious, as containers with more loot may indicate a more dangerous area.
Collecting all key evidence in an area grants an additional 140 XP. Completing the optional Lifeboat Titania investigation also grants 140 XP.
