Navigate the 'Close to Water' section of The Sinking City 2 with our comprehensive guide. Discover key evidence, optional objectives, and tips for progression.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
"Charon" Ship Investigation: This is your first investigation location. Collect all key evidence to progress.
    • Key Evidence: Your belongings on the table (briefcase), Letter from J. van der Berg (obtained from briefcase), Camera, and Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until an eyeball symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine. You will also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds.
  2. 2
Additional Evidence: Take a photo of the trophy fish mounted on the wall using your camera. Examine the flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings.
  3. 3
Lootables: A locker to the right of the desk can be looted repeatedly for ammunition and crafting materials.
  4. 4
Exiting the Ship: After collecting your belongings, you can leave the ship. Climb onto the dock by pressing Triangle.
  5. 5
Conversation with Johannes van der Berg: Upon reaching the dock, you'll speak with Johannes van der Berg. To advance the game, select the following dialogue options: "About my problem.", "Where is Robert Throgmorton?", "I need somewhere to stay.", "How do I get to Devil's Reef?", and finally, "Goodbye.". Choosing other options may lock you out of certain dialogue branches.
  6. 6
Finding Robert Throgmorton: Proceed north along the pier to a sign pointing to a bar and an exit. Turn right towards the exit and go up the stairs to automatically start a conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
  7. 7
Conversation with Robert Throgmorton: Key dialogue options to advance the game include: "What happened to your son?", "Who are the Innsmouthers?", "What do you know about the visions?", "I can try to find Albert.", "Tell me more about the case.", and "I'll be going.".
  8. 8
Optional: Titania Lifeboat Investigation: This is an optional area that provides extra XP and an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton. Return to the sign that pointed to the exit, go left down a path, and then left towards the sea. The lifeboat is beyond police barricades.
    • Additional Evidence: Inspect the lifeboat name "TITANIA". Examine the Diving Helmet (rotate and search the front faceplate). Find Albert Throgmorton's will on one of the seats. You may need to climb inside the lifeboat (Triangle) to collect some evidence. Be cautious, as looking at the diving helmet for too long will drain your sanity.
  9. 9
Returning to Robert Throgmorton: After finding Albert's Will, you can return to Robert Throgmorton to unlock an optional conversation.
Tips
  • If you own the Necronomicon Edition or associated DLC, you will receive a Submachine Gun and .45 ACP rounds. This weapon consumes ammunition quickly, so save its initial clip for important moments.
  • Consider putting a free Skill Point (if obtained from DLC) into the "Absolute Clarity" Mind skill for a 5% XP bonus.
  • Lootable objects can be reset by leaving the area and returning, allowing for repeated collection of ammunition and crafting materials. Generally, more loot in a container may indicate a more dangerous area.
  • Pressing Triangle is used to climb to higher areas.
  • When examining the pistol, rotate it until an "eyeball" symbol appears on the handle and press X.
  • To reload your gun, equip it via the weapon wheel (hold L1) and press Square.
  • The Titania Lifeboat investigation is optional and does not affect the main casebook progression but offers rewards.
Collecting all key evidence on the "Charon" ship grants an additional 140 XP. Completing the optional "Titania Lifeboat" investigation also grants 140 XP and unlocks an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
