Follow our comprehensive walkthrough for The Sinking City 2's "Fool's Gold" mission. Find all evidence, complete objectives, and uncover the secrets of this early-game quest.
Walkthrough
- 1On the Charon Ship: This is your first investigation location. Collect your belongings from the table. This includes the Letter from J. van der Berg, the Camera (essential for taking photos as evidence), and your Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until an eyeball symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine. You will also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds. Note that your gun is not loaded and requires reloading (hold L1, select gun, press Square).
- 2Additional Evidence on Ship: Use your camera to photograph the strange fish mounted on the wall (Additional Evidence). Examine the flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings table (Additional Evidence). Lootable objects, marked with a specific symbol, can be repeatedly searched for ammunition and crafting materials.
- 3Exit the Ship and Speak to Johannes van der Berg: Climb onto the dock by pressing Triangle. You will automatically start a conversation with Johannes van der Berg. To progress, select the dialogue options: "About my problem.", "Where is Robert Throgmorton?", "I need somewhere to stay.", "How do I get to Devil's Reef?", and finally "Goodbye.". Choosing these specific options will advance the game and lock out further optional dialogue.
- 4Find Robert Throgmorton: Proceed north along the pier. Turn right at the sign pointing to a bar and an exit. Go up the stairs to automatically begin a conversation with Robert Throgmorton. To advance the game, select: "What happened to your son?", "Who are the Innsmouthers?", "What do you know about the visions?", "I can try to find Albert.", "Tell me more about the case.", and finally "I'll be going.". These specific choices progress the story and lock out other dialogue branches.
Optional Investigation: Titania Lifeboat
- Locate the Lifeboat: Return to the sign that pointed to the exit. Go left down a path, then left towards the sea. The lifeboat is beyond police barricades.
- Collect Evidence: Inspect the lifeboat's name "TITANIA". Rotate the Diving Helmet and examine its front faceplate. Find Albert Throgmorton's will on one of the seats. You may need to climb inside the lifeboat (Triangle) to reach some items. Be aware that looking at the diving helmet for too long will drain your sanity.
- Reward: Completing this optional investigation yields an extra 140 XP and unlocks an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
Tips
- If you own the Necronomicon Edition or DLC, you receive a Submachine Gun and 30 .45 ACP rounds. This weapon consumes ammo rapidly; save its initial clip for critical moments.
- Consider investing a Skill Point into the Absolute Clarity Mind skill for a 5% XP bonus, aiding in earlier skill point accumulation.
- Lootable objects reset when you leave and return to an area, allowing for repeated collection of ammo and crafting materials. Be cautious, as large amounts of loot may indicate nearby dangers.
- The directions to the lifeboat from Robert Throgmorton are only given once and not marked on the map.
Completing the main objectives of "Fool's Gold" progresses the story. The optional Titania Lifeboat investigation provides bonus XP and an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
