Walkthrough
  1. 1
The 'Charon' Ship: This is your first investigation location. Collect key evidence: your belongings on the table, the Letter from J. van der Berg (found in the briefcase), the Camera, and the Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until an 'eyeball' symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine it. You also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds. Your gun is not loaded; equip and press Square to reload.
  2. 2
Additional Evidence on Ship: Use your camera to photograph the strange fish mounted on the wall (Additional Evidence). Examine the flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings (Additional Evidence). Search the locker to the right of the desk for randomized loot.
  3. 3
Leaving the Ship: Take your belongings to proceed. Climb onto the dock to your right by pressing Triangle.
  4. 4
Johannes van der Berg: Automatically start a conversation with Johannes van der Berg. You can have optional conversations to learn about the world. To advance the game, select: 'About my problem.', 'Where is Robert Throgmorton?', 'I need somewhere to stay.', 'How do I get to Devil's Reef?', 'Goodbye.'
  5. 5
Finding Robert Throgmorton: Proceed north along the pier. Turn right at the sign pointing to a bar and an 'exit'. Go up the stairs to start a conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
  6. 6
Robert Throgmorton Conversation: You can have optional conversations. To advance the game, select: 'What happened to your son?', 'Who are the Innsmouthers?', 'What do you know about the visions?', 'I can try to find Albert.', 'Tell me more about the case.', 'I'll be going.'
  7. 7
Optional: Lifeboat Titania: Ask Mr. Throgmorton about the lifeboat location. Return to the sign, go left down a path, and left towards the sea. Find the lifeboat beyond police barricades. Inspect the 'TITANIA' nameplate, the Diving Helmet (rotate and examine the front faceplate; sanity drains if held too long), and Albert Throgmorton's will on a seat. Climb inside the lifeboat (Triangle) to get some evidence.
  8. 8
Returning to Robert Throgmorton: After finding Albert's Will, return to Robert Throgmorton to unlock an optional conversation.
Tips
  • If you have the Necronomicon Edition or DLC, you receive a Submachine Gun and 30 .45 ABP rounds. Use this sparingly as it consumes ammo quickly.
  • Consider putting a free Skill Point (if received via DLC) into the 'Absolute Clarity' Mind skill for a 5% XP bonus.
  • Lootable objects (marked with a symbol) can be searched repeatedly for ammunition and crafting materials. Resetting the area or leaving and returning replenishes their contents.
  • The Lifeboat Titania is an optional investigation site that provides extra XP and an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton, but no key evidence for the main casebook.

Collecting all key evidence on the 'Charon' ship grants an additional 140 XP. Completing the optional Lifeboat Titania investigation also grants 140 XP.
