Discover the essential utility items and tools in Sea of Thieves. Learn how to find, use, and sell treasures to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Treasures are transportable items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value. They are the main source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves. Each Trading Company values certain types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards. Voyages can lead players to these treasures, but they can also be found randomly across the seas, hidden on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, or guarded by enemies. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to spot them from afar. Each treasure must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one treasure at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. Treasures can be retrieved with a Harpoon, and smaller items can be hidden in Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items. Treasure left on land remains until interacted with, but treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates. Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure, with additional Reputation for placing it on the ship.
Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that wishes to purchase them. Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, treasures are further classified into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants.
Gold Hoarder Treasures include Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys. They can be found through maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. There are six types: Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in Fortress Vaults, emitting a golden glint.
