Treasures are transportable items in Sea of Thieves that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies for currencies, reputation, and Emissary Value. Each Trading Company values specific types of treasure and has representatives at every Outpost to accept them.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasures are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company has representatives at every Outpost who accept specific treasure types for rewards.
  3. 3
Voyages offered by Outpost Representatives lead crews on quests to find these treasures.
  4. 4
Random treasures can be found on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
All treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from a distance.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying treasure.
  7. 7
Dropping treasure allows for full control of the pirate. Treasures can be retrieved from afar with a Harpoon.
  8. 8
Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow, glint, or sound, making transportation easier.
  9. 9
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  10. 10
When sailing as a Trading Company Emissary, picking up relevant treasure increases Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional increases for placing it on the ship. These bonuses are only given for the first claim of an item.

Types of Treasure Items:

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures are further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants based on their source.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

These items are sold to the Gold Hoarders on any Outpost for Gold and Reputation. Selling as a Gold Hoarder Emissary yields increased rewards and Emissary Value.

  • Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (more valuable, found in The Devil's Roar), Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests.
  • Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a golden glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of valuable materials).
