Discover the value of Skulls and other treasures in Sea of Thieves. Learn where to find them, how to sell them to Trading Companies, and maximize your Gold and Reputation.
In Sea of Thieves, Treasure items are the primary means of acquiring Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. These items can be sold to various Trading Companies located at Outposts, each specializing in different types of loot.
Treasure can be found through various means, including Voyages, random discoveries on islands, shipwrecks, floating in the sea, or obtained from defeating enemies and completing Forts. Each treasure item emits a distinct glow or glint, aiding players in spotting them from a distance.
Carrying treasure requires a pirate to hold it by hand, preventing the use of weapons or equipment. While a pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time, Harpoons can be used to retrieve them from afar. Smaller treasures can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to three items and can hide their emitted glow.
Treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates. Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants bonus Reputation and Emissary Grade when collecting relevant treasure.
Types of Treasure Items
Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be further classified as Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants, depending on their origin.
Gold Hoarders Treasure
The Gold Hoarders accept various Treasure Items, including Treasure Chests and Artefacts, for Gold and Reputation. Selling these items as a Gold Hoarder Emissary yields increased rewards.
Treasure Chests
Treasure Chests are locked containers found through Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests, with Ashen and Cursed chests often being more valuable.
Artefacts
Artefacts are smaller items found individually, within Treasure Chests, or in Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint and include various trinkets, containers, and ornaments made from valuable materials.
