Discover the ultimate guide to treasure in Sea of Thieves. Learn about different treasure types, how to find them, and how to sell them to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasures are essential Transportable Items in Sea of Thieves that players can discover, carry, and sell to various Trading Companies. Selling treasure earns players Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value, which are crucial for progression.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found through various means:
    • Completing Voyages offered by Trading Companies.
  2. 2
Discovering random treasure scattered across The Sea of Thieves, including on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, and within Shipwrecks.
  3. 3
    Unlocking Vaults in Forts.
  4. 4
Defeating enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken.
  5. 5
Identifying Treasure: All treasure items emit a distinct colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from a distance.
  6. 6
Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to the respective Trading Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from afar.
  7. 7
Storing Treasure: Smaller treasure items can be placed inside Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and simplify transportation.
  8. 8
Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  9. 9
Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and picking up relevant treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation. This bonus is awarded only when the treasure is claimed for the first time.
  10. 10
Selling Treasure: Each Trading Company values specific types of treasure. Representatives at every Outpost accept these items for Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Tips
  • Treasure Chests are valuable items sold to the Gold Hoarders. They are found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, inside Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed.
  • Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, within Treasure Chests, or inside Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (Trinkets, Containers, Ornaments), Ashen Artefacts, and Skeleton Artefacts.
