Learn about all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, including chests and artifacts. Understand how to find, carry, and sell them to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.

Treasures are transportable items in Sea of Thieves that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasures are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost.
  3. 3
Representatives accept Treasures related to their Company for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
  4. 4
Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which lead Crews on Quests to find Treasure items.
  5. 5
Random Treasure can be found on Islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, or within Forts and taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  6. 6
Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from afar.
  7. 7
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only hold one item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while carrying it.
  8. 8
The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve Treasure from a distance.
  9. 9
Smaller Treasure Items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow, glint, or sound, aiding transportation.
  10. 10
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with, but Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (Trade Good Crates float longer).
  11. 11
While sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up relevant Treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional Reputation for placing items on the ship. These increases are given only on the first claim.
Tips
  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure Items are further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants.
  • Gold Hoarders Treasure includes Treasure Chests (Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, Cursed) and Artefacts (Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, Ghostly).
  • Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint.
  • Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
