Treasures are essential Transportable Items in Sea of Thieves that players can find, carry, and sell to Trading Companies. Selling treasures earns players Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

The primary way to acquire treasure is through Voyages offered by Trading Companies at Outposts. However, treasure can also be found randomly across the Sea of Thieves, including on islands, in barrels, shipwrecks, and guarded by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a distinct colored glint or glow, allowing players to spot them from a distance.

When carrying treasure, a pirate can only hold one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources. Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller treasures can be stored in Container Chests, which can hold up to three items, making transport easier and hiding their glow.

Treasure items left on land remain until interacted with, but those dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates. Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants bonus Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure, with further increases upon delivering it to your ship.

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked containers found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, double price), Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests.

Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, within Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint and include Trinkets, Containers, and Ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
