Master Sea of Thieves ship maintenance and resource management. Learn how to find, transport, and sell treasure for Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasures are [Transportable Items](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Transportable_Items "Transportable Items") that can be found, carried, and sold to [Trading Companies](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_Companies "Trading Companies") in exchange for [Currencies](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Currencies "Currencies"), [Reputation](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Reputation "Reputation") and [Emissary Value](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Value "Emissary Value").

Mechanics

Treasure is the main source of [Gold](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold "Gold"), [Doubloons](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Bilge_Rat_Doubloons "Bilge Rat Doubloons"), [Reputation](https://seaofthieves.fandom..fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Value "Emissary Value") in [Sea of Thieves](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Sea_of_Thieves "Sea of Thieves"). Each [Trading Company](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_Company "Trading Company") values certain types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every [Outpost](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Outpost "Outpost"). These Representatives accept all Treasures related to their Company for [Gold](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold "Gold")/ [Doubloons](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Bilge_Rat_Doubloons "Bilge Rat Doubloons"), [Reputation](https://seaofthieves.fandom..fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Value "Emissary Value"). Outpost Representatives also offer [Voyages](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Voyages "Voyages"), which take Crews on [Quests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Quests "Quests") that lead them to these Treasure items.

Aside from focused Voyages, random Treasure can be found all over [The Sea of Thieves](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sea_of_Thieves "The Sea of Thieves"), whether hidden or beached on [Islands](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Islands "Islands"), floating amongst [Barrels of Plenty](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Barrels_of_Plenty "Barrels of Plenty") or [Shipwrecks](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Shipwrecks "Shipwrecks") in the Sea, locked behind [Vaults](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Vaults "Vaults") in [Forts](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Forts "Forts") or taken/eaten by various menacing foes such as [Skeleton Ships](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Skeleton_Ships "Skeleton Ships"), [Megalodons](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Megalodons "Megalodons") or the [Kraken](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Kraken "Kraken"). Every Treasure Item has a colored glint or glow surrounding it so that Players can spot them and determine their type from afar.

Every Treasure item has to be carried by hand to its respective [Company](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Company "Company") Representative to receive a payout. A single Pirate can hold one Treasure Item at one time (even if the item fits into one hand) and cannot fight or use any [Equipment](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Equipment "Equipment") or [Resource](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Resource "Resource") Items while carrying it. The Treasure has to be dropped to regain full control of the Pirate. Every Treasure Item can be retrieved from afar with a [Harpoon](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Harpoon "Harpoon"). Most smaller Treasure Items can be placed inside [Container Chests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Container_Chests "Container Chests") to hide any emitted Glow, Glint or Sound. Container Chests can carry up to 3 Small Treasure Items, making transportation and delivery of these items a fair bit easier.

Any Treasure that has been picked up and left on land will stay there until interacted with again, however any Treasure item dropped in water will sink after about 5 minutes of floating (With the exception of [Trade Good Crates](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trade_Good_Crates "Trade Good Crates"), which have been found to stay afloat for longer).

While sailing as [Trading Company Emissaries](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_Company_Emissaries "Trading Company Emissaries"), picking up a Treasure item that is relevant to the Company will give Crews [Emissary Grade](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Grade "Emissary Grade") Reputation. The Crew will get additional Reputation if they put these items on their [Ship](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Ship "Ship"). These reputation increases are given only when the Crew claims a Treasure item for the first time.

Types of Treasure Items

Treasure items are categorised by the [Trading Company](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_Company "Trading Company") that wishes to purchase them for [Currencies](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Currencies "Currencies") and [Reputation](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Reputation "Reputation") (and [Emissary Value](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Value "Emissary Value") if sailing as a [Trading Company Emissary](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_Company_Emissaries "Trading Company Emissaries")). Within the three main companies (The [Gold Hoarders](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_Hoarders "Gold Hoarders"), the [Order of Souls](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Order_of_Souls "Order of Souls") and the [Merchant Alliance](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Merchant_Alliance "Merchant Alliance")), Treasure Items are also categorised into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold or Skeletal and Ghostly variants depending on their source.

Gold Hoarders Treasure

The following are the Treasure Items that can be sold to the [Gold Hoarders](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_Hoarders "Gold Hoarders") Trading Company on any [Outpost](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Outpost "Outpost") for [Gold](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold "Gold") and [Reputation](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Reputation "Reputation"). These Items yield increased Reward and Reputation as well as [Emissary Value](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Emissary_Value "Emissary Value") when sold to the Representatives as [Gold Hoarder Emissaries](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_Hoarder_Emissaries "Gold Hoarder Emissaries").

Treasure Chests

Treasure Chests are unbreakable and locked Chests that are sold to the [Gold Hoarders](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_Hoarders "Gold Hoarders"), who have the Keys to open these Chests, for a margin of their valuable contents. Moreover, Treasure Chests can be found as a part of [Treasure Maps](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Treasure_Maps "Treasure Maps") and [Riddle Maps](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Riddle_Maps "Riddle Maps"), inside [Ancient Vaults](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Ancient_Vaults "Ancient Vaults"), or randomly across [The Sea of Thieves](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sea_of_Thieves "The Sea of Thieves"). Treasure Chests emit a White Glint from a distance. There are six types of Treasure Chests: Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable and Cursed Treasure Chests:

  • Regular Treasure Chests have no distinct qualities to them.
  • [Shipwrecked Treasure Chests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Shipwrecked_Treasure_Chests "Shipwrecked Treasure Chests") are damaged, barnacle-encrusted versions of regular Treasure Chests that can be usually found underwater or in [Shipwrecks](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Shipwrecks "Shipwrecks"). These sell for the same amount as their regular counterparts.
  • Coral Treasure Chests are coral-encrusted versions of the regular Chests that are found only in [Siren Shrines](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Siren_Shrines "Siren Shrines") And [Siren Treasuries](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Siren_Treasuries "Siren Treasuries").
  • [Ashen Treasure Chests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Ashen_Treasure_Chests "Ashen Treasure Chests") are molten versions of regular Treasure Chests. These are most commonly found in [The Devil's Roar](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/The_Devil%27s_Roar "The Devil's Roar") and can be sold for roughly double the price of their regular counterparts.
  • [Valuable Chests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Valuable_Chests "Valuable Chests") are Chests that are specific to various [Encounters](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Encounters "Encounters") on the seas.
  • [Cursed Treasure Chests](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Cursed_Treasure_Chests "Cursed Treasure Chests") are tied to specific locations or have specific effects attached to them and are generally very valuable.

Artefacts

Artefacts are smaller items that can be found either on their own, hidden away in Treasure Chests "Treasure Chest (container)") throughout [The Sea of Thieves](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sea_of_Thieves "The Sea of Thieves"), or inside [Fortress Vaults](https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/Fortress_Vault "Fortress Vault"). There are four types of Artefacts:

  • Regular Artefacts are a selection of small Trinkets, Containers or Ornaments made out of valuable metals and gems. These emit a Golden Glint from a distance. They share their pricing tiers with [Treasure Chest
