Master Sea of Thieves treasure! Learn about all treasure types, mechanics, where to find them, and how to sell them to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found randomly on islands, in shipwrecks, floating in barrels, or within vaults in forts. Enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken may also drop treasure. A colored glint indicates the presence of treasure from a distance.
  2. 2
Carrying Treasure: Players must carry treasure items by hand to sell them. A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use any equipment or fight while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from afar.
  3. 3
Container Chests: Smaller treasure items can be placed inside Container Chests, which can hold up to three items. This helps hide their glow, glint, or sound, and makes transportation easier.
  4. 4
Treasure Lifespan: Treasure dropped on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  5. 5
Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained if the treasure is placed on the ship. These bonuses are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.
  6. 6
Selling Treasure: Treasure items are sold to Representatives of specific Trading Companies at Outposts. Each company values certain types of treasure. Selling treasure earns Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Tips
  • Pay attention to the colored glint to spot treasure from a distance.
  • Use harpoons for efficient treasure retrieval, especially from shipwrecks or difficult locations.
  • Container Chests are useful for managing multiple small treasure items.
  • Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your current Trading Company Emissary status for maximum rewards.
  • Be aware of the time limit for treasure floating in water.

Types of Treasure:

  • Gold Hoarders Treasure: Includes Treasure Chests (Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, Cursed) and Artefacts (Regular, Ashen, Coral, Skeleton). These emit a White Glint (Chests) or Golden Glint (Artefacts).

  • Merchant Alliance Treasure: Includes Trade Goods (Plants, Spices, Silks, Rum, Cannonballs, Gunpowder) and Animals (Chickens, Pigs, Snakes). These emit a Green Glint.
