Discover all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, from chests to artifacts. Learn how to find, transport, and sell your loot to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company has representatives at Outposts who accept specific treasure types for rewards.
  3. 3
Voyages can be obtained from Outpost Representatives to embark on quests for treasure.
  4. 4
Random treasure can be found on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken.
  5. 5
Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from a distance.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying treasure.
  7. 7
The Harpoon can be used to retrieve treasure from afar.
  8. 8
Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and simplify transport.
  9. 9
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  10. 10
Picking up relevant treasure while sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional increases for placing items on the ship. These increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.

Types of Treasure:

  1. Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance.
  2. Within these companies, treasure can be further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants depending on their source.
  3. Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Emissary Value is increased when sold as a Gold Hoarder Emissary.
    • Treasure Chests: Locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They emit a White Glint. Types include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (from specific encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
    • Artefacts: Smaller items found individually, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of metal/gems).
Tips
  • Use the Harpoon to quickly grab treasure from a distance.
  • Container Chests are essential for carrying multiple small treasures and hiding their glow.
  • Pay attention to the glint/glow color to identify treasure types from afar.
  • Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your Emissary flag for increased rewards.
  • Be aware that carrying treasure restricts your ability to fight or use equipment.
