Explore the diverse world of Sea of Thieves treasure! Learn about different treasure types, how to find them, their mechanics, and how they contribute to your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasures are transportable items in Sea of Thieves that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value. They are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in the game.

Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure Items and has representatives at every Outpost. These representatives accept Treasures related to their Company in exchange for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. They also offer Voyages, which are quests that lead players to these treasure items.

Beyond Voyages, random Treasures can be found scattered across The Sea of Thieves. They might be hidden or beached on Islands, floating among Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, locked behind Vaults in Forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. All Treasure Items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from a distance.

To sell treasure, it must be carried by hand to the respective Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one Treasure Item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasures from afar. Most smaller Treasure Items can be placed in Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and sound, making transportation easier.

Any treasure left on land will remain until interacted with. However, treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates, which stay afloat longer. When sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up a relevant Treasure Item grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional Reputation given if the items are placed on the ship. These increases are awarded only when a treasure item is claimed for the first time.

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure Items are further classified into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants based on their source.

Gold Hoarders Treasure includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked containers sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys to open them. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas, emitting a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, within Treasure Chests, or in Fortress Vaults, emitting a golden glint. They are categorized into Regular Artefacts, Ashen Artefacts, Stronghold Artefacts, and Ghostly Artefacts.
