Discover how to earn cosmetics in Sea of Thieves by understanding the treasure system. Learn about selling loot to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Find Treasure: Treasure items can be found scattered across the Sea of Thieves, including on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within vaults at Forts, or taken from enemies.
  2. 2
Identify Treasure: All treasure items emit a distinct colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify their type from a distance.
  3. 3
Carry Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to a Trading Company Representative at an Outpost. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar.
  4. 4
Store Treasure: Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which can hold up to three items and hide their emitted glow, glint, or sound.
  5. 5
Deliver Treasure: Sell treasure to the Trading Company Representative that values it. Each company accepts specific types of treasure for Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
  6. 6
Emissary Bonus: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained when the treasure is placed on the ship.
Tips
  • Treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  • Regular Treasure Chests emit a White Glint.
  • Shipwrecked Treasure Chests are damaged, barnacle-encrusted versions found underwater or in shipwrecks, selling for the same as regular chests.
  • Coral Treasure Chests are found in Siren Shrines and Treasuries.
  • Ashen Treasure Chests are molten, found in The Devil's Roar, and sell for double the price of regular chests.
  • Artefacts emit a Golden Glint and can be found on their own, in chests, or in Fortress Vaults.
