Learn about Treasure in Sea of Thieves: how to find it, sell it to Trading Companies, and the different types of valuable items you can discover across the seas.
Treasures are Transportable Items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
- 2Each Trading Company values specific Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
- 3Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests that lead Crews to Treasure items.
- 4Random Treasure can be found on Islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
- 5All Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for visibility.
- 6Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying it.
- 7The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve Treasure from afar.
- 8Smaller Treasure items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transportation.
- 9Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 10When sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up relevant Treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing it on the ship. These increases are awarded only on the first claim of an item.
Tips
- Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
- Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure is further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants.
- Gold Hoarder Treasure includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who open them. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint.
- Types of Treasure Chests include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, double price), Valuable (from specific Encounters), and Cursed (tied to locations/effects, very valuable).
- Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
