Every part of your ship plays a crucial role in your piratical endeavors. Understanding the function of each key component – the wheel, sails, anchor, and cannons – is fundamental to effective sailing, navigation, and combat. Mastering these elements will transform you from a deckhand into a capable captain.

The Wheel is your primary steering mechanism. Turning it dictates your ship's direction. Its responsiveness can be affected by your ship's speed and the sea state. Learning to make smooth, controlled turns is essential for navigating tight spots and outmaneuvering opponents. A sharp turn can be achieved by spinning the wheel rapidly, but this can also cause your ship to lose momentum.

The Sails are your engine. By adjusting their angle relative to the wind, you control your ship's speed and direction. Sailing directly into the wind is impossible; you must 'tack' by angling your sails to catch the wind at a diagonal. The more the sails are filled with wind, the faster your ship will move. In combat, quickly raising or lowering sails can be used to adjust your speed for better cannon aim or to escape pursuit.

The Anchor is used to stop your ship or slow it down significantly. Dropping the anchor abruptly can cause your ship to pivot sharply, which can be useful for quick turns in combat or for stopping your momentum. Raising the anchor takes time, so it's best used when you intend to stay put or are preparing for a tactical maneuver.

Finally, the Cannons are your primary offensive weapons. They are used to bombard enemy ships, fortifications, and even large sea creatures. Different types of cannonballs exist, such as regular cannonballs for hull damage, chain shots for disabling sails, and firebombs for setting ships ablaze. Effective use of cannons requires good aim, an understanding of projectile trajectory, and coordination with your crew to reload and fire rapidly.
