Discover all about Treasure in Sea of Thieves! Learn how to find, carry, and sell various treasure items to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found via Voyages, randomly on islands, in shipwrecks, floating in the sea, within Fort vaults, or taken from enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for visibility.
  2. 2
Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to a Trading Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or fight while carrying treasure. Dropping the item allows for full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and sound.
  3. 3
Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  4. 4
Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained when the treasure is put on the ship. These bonuses apply only to the first claim of a treasure item.
  5. 5
Trading Companies: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal/Ghostly variants.
  6. 6
Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders include Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
  7. 7
Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (from Encounters), and Cursed (very valuable). They emit a White Glint.
  8. 8
Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
Tips
  • Use Container Chests to transport multiple small treasures efficiently and hide their glow.
  • Harpoons are useful for retrieving treasure from a distance or from shipwrecks.
  • Be aware of the time limit for treasure floating in water.
  • Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your current Trading Company Emissary level for maximum gains.
