Learn about all types of Treasure in Sea of Thieves, including Chests and Artifacts. Discover how to find, carry, and sell them to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasures are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
  3. 3
Voyages can be obtained from Outpost Representatives to embark on Quests for Treasure.
  4. 4
Random Treasure can be found across The Sea of Thieves on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Fort Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
All Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for easy spotting from a distance.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while carrying it.
  7. 7
Treasures can be retrieved from afar with a Harpoon.
  8. 8
Smaller Treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and simplify transportation.
  9. 9
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with, but treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates).
  10. 10
Picking up relevant Treasure as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing items on the ship. These increases are only for the first claim of an item.

Types of Treasure Items:

  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance companies, Treasure is further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

  • Sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Emissary status increases rewards.
  • Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to Gold Hoarders. Found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. Emit a White Glint. Types include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (from specific Encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
  • Artefacts: Smaller items found alone, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. Emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of valuable metals/gems).
