Master Sea of Thieves treasure hunting! Learn about all treasure types, where to find them, how to carry them, and which Trading Companies pay the most for your hard-earned loot.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found randomly on islands, in shipwrecks, floating in barrels, within fort vaults, or taken from enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, making them visible from a distance.
  2. 2
Carrying Treasure: A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time. While carrying treasure, you cannot fight or use equipment. You must drop the item to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and hide their glow.
  3. 3
Treasure Persistence: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  4. 4
Emissary Bonus: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional reputation is gained when the treasure is placed on your ship. These bonuses apply only to the first time a treasure item is claimed.
  5. 5
Trading Companies: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Each company has representatives at every Outpost.
  6. 6
Gold Hoarder Treasure: This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders. They come in various types: Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed. Artefacts are smaller items found in chests or vaults. Both emit a white or golden glint respectively.
Tips
  • Pay attention to the glint and glow to spot treasure from a distance.
  • Use Container Chests to transport multiple small treasures efficiently.
  • Ashen Treasure Chests, found in The Devil's Roar, are worth double their regular counterparts.
  • Cursed Treasure Chests are often very valuable but may have attached effects.
  • Always consider selling treasure to the relevant Trading Company when sailing as an Emissary for increased rewards.
