Learn how to find, carry, and sell treasure in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure types, their value to Trading Companies, and how Emissary status affects rewards.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be discovered on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within vaults, or taken from defeated enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a distinct colored glint, allowing players to identify them from a distance.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to a Trading Company representative. A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. Dropping the treasure allows for full control. Harpoons can also be used to retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and hide their glow.
- 3Treasure Durability: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is awarded if the treasure is placed on the ship. These bonuses are applied the first time a treasure item is claimed.
- 5Trading Companies: There are three main Trading Companies: the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Each company has representatives at every Outpost who accept specific treasure types. Selling treasure grants Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
- 6Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them. Within the main companies, treasures can also be classified as Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants depending on their origin.
- 7Gold Hoarders Treasure: This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are sold to the Gold Hoarders, who open them for their contents. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Artefacts are smaller items found throughout the seas or within fortress vaults.
