Discover the core mechanics of treasure hunting in Sea of Thieves. Learn how to find, transport, and sell various treasure items to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Find Treasure: Look for a colored glint or glow indicating treasure. This can be found on islands, in shipwrecks, floating in the sea, or obtained from enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken.
- 2Carry Treasure: Pick up treasure items by hand. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or fight while carrying treasure. Drop the item to regain full control. Harpoons can also retrieve treasure from a distance.
- 3Store Treasure: Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items and hide their glow.
- 4Sell Treasure: Deliver treasure items to the appropriate Trading Company representative at any Outpost. Each company values specific types of treasure.
Tips
- Treasure items dropped on land remain until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates).
- When sailing as a Trading Company Emissary, picking up relevant treasure increases your Emissary Grade Reputation.
- Treasure Chests are unbreakable and locked, sold to the Gold Hoarders. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed.
- Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in fortress vaults. They emit a golden glint.
