Discover the secrets of Sea of Thieves' miscellaneous activities. Learn how to find, transport, and sell treasure, from chests to artifacts, for gold and reputation.

Treasures are Transportable Items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company has Representatives at every Outpost who accept specific Treasure Items for rewards.
  3. 3
Voyages offered by Representatives lead crews on Quests to find Treasure.
  4. 4
Random Treasure can be found on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Fort Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
Treasure items emit a colored glint for easy spotting.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Representative for payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying it.
  7. 7
The Harpoon can retrieve Treasure from afar.
  8. 8
Smaller Treasure Items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transport.
  9. 9
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates.
  10. 10
Picking up relevant Treasure as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing items on the ship.
Tips
  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that desires them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly.
  • Gold Hoarders accept Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
  • Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders for a portion of their contents. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint.
  • Types of Treasure Chests include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (common in The Devil's Roar, double price), Valuable (from specific Encounters), and Cursed (tied to locations/effects, very valuable).
  • Artefacts are smaller items found alone, in Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
