Embark on your maiden voyage with confidence! This section guides you through the initial setup of Sea of Thieves, from character creation and ship selection to your very first steps on the open sea. We'll ensure you're ready to hoist the sails and begin your pirating adventure.

The moment you launch Sea of Thieves, you're thrust into a world of pirate fantasy. The initial setup is designed to be intuitive, guiding new players through the essential steps before they set sail.

Character Creation

Your pirate is your avatar in this world. The character creator offers a wide array of options:

• Body Types: Choose from various body shapes and sizes.
• Facial Features: Customize everything from nose shape and eye color to scars, tattoos, and facial hair.
• Voice: Select a pirate voice that suits your style.

You can re-roll your pirate's appearance as many times as you like until you find one you're happy with. Remember, your pirate's appearance is permanent once you start playing.

Ship Selection

Before your first voyage, you'll choose your starting vessel:

• Sloop: Ideal for solo players or duos. It's fast, agile, and easy to manage.
• Brigantine: A good choice for crews of 2-3 players. It offers a balance of speed and firepower.
• Galleon: The largest ship, requiring 3-4 players. It's slow but heavily armed and can carry a lot of loot.

For your very first experience, the Sloop is highly recommended as it simplifies learning the core sailing mechanics.

The Tutorial Voyage

New players are automatically guided through a tutorial voyage. This is a crucial step to familiarize yourself with the game's fundamental mechanics:

• Ship Controls: Learn to steer, manage sails, anchor, and use the spyglass.
• Basic Combat: Practice fighting skeletons with your cutlass and pistol.
• Interacting with the Environment: Understand how to dig for treasure and use your shovel.
• Quest System: Get introduced to the Quest Table and how to select voyages.

The tutorial is led by the Pirate Lord and provides clear instructions. Pay close attention to these lessons, as they form the bedrock of your pirating skills.

Setting Sail

Once the tutorial is complete, you'll find yourself at an outpost with your chosen ship. Here's what to do next:

1. Check Your Supplies: Ensure your ship's barrels are stocked with cannonballs, planks, and fruit. You can find these in barrels scattered around the outpost or by visiting the Shipwright.
2. Select a Voyage: Head to the Quest Table on your ship. For beginners, choosing a Gold Hoarders or Order of Souls voyage is recommended. These typically involve finding treasure chests or defeating skeleton captains.
3. Chart Your Course: Open your map at the chart table and plot a course to the island indicated on your voyage map.
4. Hoist the Sails: Raise your anchor and adjust your sails to catch the wind.
