Learn how to find, carry, and sell various types of treasure in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure types, their locations, and how they contribute to your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found randomly on islands, in shipwrecks, floating in barrels, within fort vaults, or taken from enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint, allowing players to identify their type from a distance.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to a Trading Company representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and can hide their glow.
- 3Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, though Trade Good Crates may float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and collecting relevant treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation. This bonus is awarded the first time a treasure item is claimed and placed on the ship.
- 5Trading Companies: Each Trading Company values specific treasure types. Representatives at Outposts accept treasure for Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. They also offer Voyages, which are quests leading to treasure.
- 6Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company they belong to. The main companies are the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.
- 7Gold Hoarders Treasure: This includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- 8Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Ashen chests, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double the price of regular chests.
- 9Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in fortress vaults. They emit a golden glint and include trinkets, containers, and ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
