Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
  3. 3
Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests that lead players to Treasure items.
  4. 4
Besides Voyages, Treasure can be found randomly across The Sea of Thieves: hidden or beached on Islands, floating in Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, or within Vaults in Forts.
  5. 5
Enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken may also drop Treasure.
  6. 6
All Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to spot them from afar and identify their type.
  7. 7
Treasure items must be carried by hand to the respective Company Representative for a payout.
  8. 8
A single Pirate can only carry one Treasure Item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment/resources while carrying it. The item must be dropped to regain full control.
  9. 9
Treasure items can be retrieved from a distance using a Harpoon.
  10. 10
Smaller Treasure Items can be placed inside Container Chests (which hold up to 3 items) to hide their glow, glint, or sound, making transportation easier.
  11. 11
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes (Trade Good Crates may stay afloat longer).
  12. 12
While sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up relevant Treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains if the items are placed on the ship. These increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a Treasure item.

Types of Treasure Items:

  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure Items are further classified into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants based on their source.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

  • Treasure Chests: Unbreakable and locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint. Types include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (specific to Encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
  • Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of valuable metals/gems).
