Learn about all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, including chests, artifacts, and more. Understand how to find, carry, and sell them to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found through various means, including completing Voyages, exploring islands, searching shipwrecks, opening Vaults in Forts, and defeating enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, making them visible from a distance.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Each treasure item must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while doing so. Dropping the treasure allows for full control. Harpoons can also be used to retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and hide their glow.
- 3Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained if the treasure is placed on the ship before delivery. These bonuses are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.
- 5Trading Companies: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: The Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Each company has Representatives at every Outpost.
- 6Gold Hoarders Treasure: This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- 7Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found through Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, and randomly across the seas. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Ashen chests, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double the price of regular chests.
- 8Artefacts: These are smaller items found on their own, inside Treasure Chests, or in Fortress Vaults. They emit a golden glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments) and others that share pricing tiers with Treasure Chests.
