Discover how to earn Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves by selling treasure to Trading Companies. Learn about different treasure types and their locations.

Treasures are transportable items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasures are the main source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values certain types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost. These Representatives accept all Treasures related to their Company for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
  3. 3
Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which take Crews on Quests that lead them to these Treasure items.
  4. 4
Aside from focused Voyages, random Treasure can be found all over The Sea of Thieves, whether hidden or beached on Islands, floating amongst Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, locked behind Vaults in Forts or taken by Skeleton Ships, Megalodons or the Kraken.
  5. 5
Every Treasure Item has a colored glint or glow surrounding it so that Players can spot them and determine their type from afar.
  6. 6
Every Treasure item has to be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative to receive a payout. A single Pirate can hold one Treasure Item at one time and cannot fight or use any Equipment or Resource Items while carrying it.
  7. 7
The Treasure has to be dropped to regain full control of the Pirate. Every Treasure Item can be retrieved from afar with a Harpoon.
  8. 8
Most smaller Treasure Items can be placed inside Container Chests to hide any emitted Glow, Glint or Sound. Container Chests can carry up to 3 Small Treasure Items.
  9. 9
Any Treasure that has been picked up and left on land will stay there until interacted with again, however any Treasure item dropped in water will sink after about 5 minutes of floating (With the exception of Trade Good Crates).
  10. 10
While sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up a Treasure item that is relevant to the Company will give Crews Emissary Grade Reputation. The Crew will get additional Reputation if they put these items on their Ship.
Tips
  • Treasure items are categorised by the Trading Company that wishes to purchase them.
  • Within the three main companies (The Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls and the Merchant Alliance), Treasure Items are also categorised into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold or Skeletal and Ghostly variants depending on their source.
  • Gold Hoarders Treasure Items include various types of Treasure Chests (Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, Cursed) and Artefacts (Regular Artefacts).
  • Treasure Chests emit a White Glint from a distance.
  • Regular Artefacts emit a Golden Glint from a distance.
