Learn about all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, including chests, artifacts, and more. Discover how to find, carry, and sell them to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found through dedicated Voyages, randomly across the Sea of Thieves, on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Fort Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow to help players spot them from afar.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Each treasure item must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only hold one treasure item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while carrying it. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items, making transport easier.
- 3Treasure Persistence: Treasure left on land will remain until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water will sink after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained if the treasure is placed on the ship. These increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.
- 5Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.
- 6Gold Hoarders Treasure: This includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders for a portion of their contents. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. There are six types: Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed. Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in Fortress Vaults, emitting a Golden Glint.
Tips
- Use a Harpoon to quickly grab treasure from a distance.
- Store smaller treasures in Container Chests to make transport more efficient and hide their glow.
- Pay attention to the colored glint of treasure to identify its type from afar.
- Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your current Trading Company Emissary status for maximum rewards.
- Be aware that carrying treasure restricts your ability to fight or use equipment, so plan your approach carefully.
