Treasures are essential Transportable Items in Sea of Thieves that players can find, carry, and sell to various Trading Companies. Selling treasure yields Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value, forming the backbone of player progression and wealth accumulation.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Understanding Treasure Mechanics: Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Each Trading Company specializes in certain treasure types and has representatives at every Outpost. These representatives accept treasure for rewards and offer Voyages that lead to more treasure.
  2. 2
Finding Treasure: Beyond dedicated Voyages, treasure can be found randomly across the Sea of Thieves. Look for it on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Treasure items emit a distinct colored glint or glow, aiding in spotting them from afar.
  3. 3
Carrying and Transporting Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative. While carrying treasure, a pirate cannot fight or use equipment/resources, and has limited mobility. Dropping the treasure regains full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transport. Treasure left on land remains, but treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates.
  4. 4
Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is awarded when these items are placed on the ship and claimed for the first time.
  5. 5
Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can have Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.
  6. 6
Gold Hoarders Treasure: These items are sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Emissaries of the Gold Hoarders receive increased rewards.
  7. 7
Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to Gold Hoarders. Found via maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. Emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (more valuable, found in The Devil's Roar), Valuable, and Cursed.
  8. 8
Artefacts: Smaller items found alone, in chests, or Fortress Vaults. Emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments).
