Learn about Quest Items in Sea of Thieves, including equippable tools like the Enchanted Compass and transportable items such as Totem Keys and Medallions used in Tall Tales and Voyages.

Quest Items are special items acquired and used during Tall Tales and special Voyages. Their shape can vary, appearing as Keys, Totems, Medallions, Trinkets, Skulls, or Equipment.

Most of these items cannot be sold for gold, with a few marked exceptions.

Types of Quest Items

Although each Tall Tale has unique Items tied to its completion, they can roughly be categorized as follows:

Equippable Quest Items

These are the various unique Equipment items or tools acquired during certain Tall Tales. These are special and modified Compasses, Spyglasses, Lanterns or other tools that need to be used to solve the puzzles of the Tall Tales. While these items mimic Equipment items, they can only be accessed via the Map Radial Inventory and are usable only during the specific Tall Tales. These Equipment Items are as follows:

  • Enchanted Compass - Acquired during The Cursed Rogue Tall Tale. This Compass points to the location of Captain Briggsy.
  • Enchanted Lantern - Acquired during The Fate of the Morningstar and The Seabound Soul Tall Tales. This Lantern allows you to see past events and follow in their ghostly footsteps.
  • Carved Plank - Acquired during the The Legendary Storyteller Tall Tale. These wooden planks act like Maps. Each of these has scribbled scenery and holes that represent landmarks. The co-ordinates of the Island are marked on the back of the Map.
  • Flame of Souls - A Flame of Fate equipped to your lantern to use with braziers, torches, and lantens in the Sea of the Damned.
  • Golden Wayfinder - A Compass used during a Wayfinder Voyages, always pointing towards hidden Torn Map Parchments.
  • Jack's Compass - A Compass that guides players what they desire most in the Tall Tales.
  • Morningstar Set - These Clothing items are found during the Revenge of the Morningstar and can be worn during the Tall Tale.
  • Lover's Compass - Acquired during the Wild Rose Tall Tale. This Enchanted Compass points to the location of Rose and George.
  • The Shroudbreaker - This Legendary Artifact is tied on the Helm of the Ship and is used to sail into The Devil's Shroud.
  • Sudds' Ancient Spyglass - Acquired during the Stars of a Thief Tall Tale. This Spyglass allows the player to see constellations in the sky, even during Daytime and through storms! This Spyglass uses the Ancient Spyglass skin that can be unlocked after completing Commendations for the Tall Tale.
  • Trapmaker's Spyglass - Acquired during The Art of the Trickster Tall Tale. This Spyglass allows you to solve the Trickster's puzzles. The Spyglass uses the Rum Bottle Spyglass skin that can be unlocked after completing Commendations for this Tall Tale.

Transportable Quest Items

These items comprise all the Trinket-like items that can be carried around for solving puzzles or for turning them in for Tall Tale completion. While these items vary by type, they can be more or less categorized in the following groups:

Keys

These are the various Items used as Keys for opening hidden Vaults or Chests.

Totem Keys

These Totem Keys can be found as a part of the Tall Tales The Shroudbreaker (Quest), Stars of a Thief and The Art of the Trickster. Each quest will provide one of these Totems randomly, which will open a hidden Vault on a specific Large Island:

  • Boar Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Devil's Ridge.
  • Crab Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Uncharted Island (N-13).
  • Moon Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Crescent Isle.
  • Scarab Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Crook's Hollow.
  • Snake Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Mermaid's Hideaway.
  • Shark Totem - Used to open a hidden Vault on Kraken's Fall.
Medallions

These coin-like Medallions are used as Keys for opening Treasure rooms in Vaults.
