Learn about all the different types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, including chests and artifacts. Find out where to get them and how to sell them to Trading Companies for gold and reputation.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
  3. 3
Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests leading to Treasure.
  4. 4
Random Treasure can be found across The Sea of Thieves on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
All Treasure Items emit a colored glint or glow for easy spotting.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while carrying it.
  7. 7
Harpoons can retrieve Treasure from afar.
  8. 8
Smaller Treasure Items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transport.
  9. 9
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates).
  10. 10
While sailing as a Trading Company Emissary, picking up relevant Treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing it on the ship. These increases are for the first claim of an item.

Types of Treasure Items:

  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, items are further categorized as Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

  • Sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Selling as a Gold Hoarder Emissary yields increased rewards and Emissary Value.
  • Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. Found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. Emit a White Glint. Types include:
    • Regular Treasure Chests
    • Shipwrecked Treasure Chests (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks)
    • Coral Treasure Chests (found in Siren Shrines and Treasuries)
    • Ashen Treasure Chests (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double)
    • Valuable Chests (specific to Encounters)
    • Cursed Treasure Chests (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable)
  • Artefacts: Smaller items found alone, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. Emit a Golden Glint. Types include:
    • Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of metal/gems)
