Learn about all the types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, including chests, artifacts, and how to sell them to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found randomly on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, indicating their type from afar.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to the respective Trading Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while doing so. Dropping the treasure allows for full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasures from a distance.
- 3Container Chests: Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which hide their emitted glow/glint and can hold up to 3 items, easing transportation and delivery.
- 4Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 5Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and picking up relevant treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation. Additional Reputation is gained when the treasure is placed on the ship. These increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.
- 6Trading Companies: Each Trading Company values specific treasure types and has Representatives at every Outpost. They accept treasures for Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Representatives also offer Voyages, which are quests leading to treasure.
- 7Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, treasures have variants like Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly.
- 8Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders include Treasure Chests and Artifacts.
- 9Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable, and Cursed Chests.
- 10Artifacts: Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Trinkets, Containers, and Ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
