- 1Mechanics: Most Fragments are scanned using the Codex or Synthesis Scanner. This unlocks artwork in the Codex's Universe tab, which can also be used as Orbiter decorations. Hovering over a specific point on the unlocked image reveals an audio transmission with lore. Some Fragments require direct interaction (default X) instead of scanning.
- 2Cephalon Fragments: These are blue data blocks found in missions across most planets, moons, and locations (excluding Kuva Fortress). Each location has 2-3 fragments, requiring 3-7 scans. They appear as a blue quadruple diamond on the minimap with loot radar mods. They cannot be found in Defense, Interception, or Archwing missions. These fragments reveal lore about the Origin System's factions, characters, and planets, and decrypting them unlocks Ordis' Past, narrated by Ordis.
