- 1Mechanics: Most Fragments can be scanned using the Codex Scanner or Synthesis Scanner. This unlocks artwork in the Codex's Universe tab and accompanying lore. A hidden point on each image, indicated by white noise, reveals an audio transmission with further lore. Some Fragments require direct interaction (default key 'X') instead of scanning.
- 2Cephalon Fragments: These appear as hovering blue data blocks, typically found in rooms during missions. They can be scanned with a Codex or Synthesis Scanner. Each planet, moon, or location (except Kuva Fortress) has 2-3 fragments, requiring 3-7 scans each. They are visualized as a blue quadruple diamond on the minimap if loot radar mods are active. Cephalon Fragments do not spawn in Defense, Interception, or Archwing missions. They reveal lore about Factions, Characters, and Planets, and decrypting them unveils Ordis' Past, narrated by Ordis.
