Fragments are hidden items scattered throughout the Origin System in Warframe. Collecting them unlocks written and audiovisual lore that expands upon the game's setting. Most Fragments can be scanned using a Codex or Synthesis Scanner, revealing artwork and lore entries in the Codex's Universe tab. Some unlocked images can also be used as decorations on your Orbiter. Hovering over a specific point on these images will trigger a short audio transmission with additional lore, guided by an increasing white noise sound.
Other Fragment types simply require interaction (default X key) to acquire. These Fragments are released chronologically.
Cephalon Fragments are data fragments found during missions, appearing as hovering blue data blocks. They are typically hidden within rooms and can be located on the mini-map with loot radar mods. Each planet, moon, or location in the Origin System (except the Kuva Fortress) has 2-3 fragments, requiring 3-7 scans each. They do not appear in Defense, Interception, or Archwing missions. Scanning them unlocks lore about the Origin System's Factions, Characters, and Planets, and decrypting them reveals Ordis' Past, narrated by Ordis.
