How to Complete Makasura Shrine

Alright, so you're looking to tackle the Makasura Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom, huh? It's called 'An Upright Device' and it's located right on the edge of Kakariko Village, perched on a cliff overlooking the whole place. You could totally just climb up there, but there's a much slicker way using your Ascend ability.

Head to the western side of Kakariko Village, near the first archway you see. Look for some wooden scaffolding clinging to the cliff face. Stand directly beneath the lowest piece of scaffolding and use Ascend. Keep popping up through each level of scaffolding until you reach the top. Easy peasy!

Once you're inside the shrine, the first room might seem a bit empty, which can be a little confusing if you've forgotten about Ascend. Just head straight to the wall opposite where you entered and use Ascend again to get to the next ledge. This is where the real puzzling begins!

You'll notice a Zonai Device called a Stabilizer. When you hit it to turn it on, it'll always stand straight up, no matter what. This thing is key to building makeshift catapults to launch yourself over gaps and walls.

For the first real puzzle, you'll see a platform with a Stabilizer attached and a big gap in front of you. Your goal is to rotate this platform so the Stabilizer is facing the gap. Then, stand on the opposite side of the platform (the side that will launch you) and hit the Stabilizer with an arrow. This will send you flying across the gap!

Next up, you'll see two tall walls and another platform with a Stabilizer. There's also a receptacle on the ground meant for a ball. First, find the side with the ball behind it – that's where you need to go. Position the catapult platform in the center and launch yourself over the wall. It might take a couple of tries to get the angle just right.

In this little side area, you'll find the ball, an unfused Stabilizer, and another platform with a bowl on the end. You might already have an idea what to do. Before you do anything, attach the loose Stabilizer to the opposite end of the bowl platform. Now, remember that higher ledge you might have spotted when you first launched yourself over the wall? Aim this catapult with the bowl at that ledge and launch yourself up there. You'll find a chest containing a Fairy Tonic – it's the only chest in this shrine, so don't miss it!

Now, reverse the catapult setup. Use Ultrahand to place the ball into the bowl, and then launch it over the wall. You'll need to do this again, but this time, launch yourself over the wall using the catapult. The ball should land in the receptacle, which will open the gate on the other side.

Inside this new area, there's another platform with a bowl. Head back to the central area with the main catapult. Attach this new bowl platform to the far end of the main catapult. Position it so the bowl is facing the large chasm ahead. Now, use this to launch yourself across the chasm to the altar on the other side. You've completed the shrine and earned yourself a Light of Blessing!
