On Borrowed Time

Follow our Assassin's Creed Valhalla guide to complete the 'On Borrowed Time' quest, including rescuing villagers and speaking with Vili.

Alright, so you've got the quest 'On Borrowed Time' in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It kicks off when you chat with Vili at Ulkerthorpe Fort. He'll ask you to ride with him to a spring northwest of the fort, heading towards Stoneburgh. Keep an eye out as you ride – you'll notice Stoneburgh is on fire!

Follow Vili into the village. After a cutscene, it's time to play firefighter and rescue the villagers trapped in the burning buildings.

Rescue Villagers at Stoneburgh

This part is all about saving people. You'll need to break through wooden barriers to get to them. Some villagers might be able to escape on their own, but others will need a hand. Pay attention to the buildings – some have barred doors on the ground floor. For those, you'll need to find a way to the roof, enter from above, and then break the lock from the inside to let people out.

You need to rescue enough people to fill a progress bar, which means saving folks from at least three buildings. Don't stress about speed too much; even though the quest feels urgent, you've actually got a decent amount of time to get everyone out.

Once that progress bar is full, find Vili. If he's playing hide-and-seek, just use your raven to get a better look. He'll need your help moving a big pillar blocking a house entrance. After that, you'll need to carry the survivors from that house to safety, just beyond the northern gates. Just stick with Vili, and a cutscene will trigger when you're done.

Pro-Tip: If you're having trouble spotting everyone, look for the interactive icons that appear over the villagers needing rescue.

Meet Vili at Kinder Downfall

After the cutscene, your next objective is to find Vili again. He'll be at Kinder Downfall, which is located north of Stoneburgh and east of Hemthorpe. When you get to the waterfall, make sure to climb up the northern side. This way, you won't get blocked by any ice.

As you get close to Vili, another cutscene will start. You'll have a few dialogue choices here, but don't worry too much about them – they don't change the outcome of the quest. The chat between Eivor and Vili gets interrupted with some serious news: Hemming is on his deathbed. You'll need to head to the longhouse in Hemthorpe to see him before it's too late.

After a rather lengthy cutscene in the longhouse, your final task for this quest is to get to Odin's Rest, which is northwest of the longhouse. Once you arrive, speak with Trygve. Another cutscene will play, and then this quest will wrap up.

Location Tip: Kinder Downfall is just west of Hemthorpe.
