Where the Stone Falls

Decide the fate of Lincoln in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's 'Where the Stone Falls' quest. Learn the consequences of choosing Hunwald, Aelfgar, or Herefrith.

Alright, so you've made it to the Shiremoot in Lincoln for the quest "Where the Stone Falls." Your main job here is to cast the deciding vote for who should lead. You'll start by chatting with Acha, who you can find chilling between the town hall and the hospice. Once you're ready to get down to business, head into the town hall to attend the moot.

Inside, you'll learn that each of the three candidates—Hunwald, Aelfgar, and Herefrith—already has four votes. It's all on Eivor, meaning you, to make the final call.

Here's the lowdown on what happens with each choice:

• If you choose Hunwald: This is where things get spicy. Herefrith gets exposed as a member of the Order of the Ancients. You'll have to fight his goons, and then you can immediately jump into the next quest, "A Sword-Shower in Anecastre."
• If you choose Aelfgar: The story plays out pretty similarly to picking Hunwald, with Herefrith also being revealed as part of the Order. The main difference is that Hunwald will join your settlement later, along with Swanburrow, after "The Lay of Hunwald" wraps up. Even if you picked Hunwald earlier, you can still build their house in Ravensthorpe, and Swanburrow will settle there on her own.
• If you choose Herefrith: This is the path that closes off some options. You won't be able to do "A Sword-Shower in Anecastre" right away, and "The Lay of Hunwald" arc will just end. Keep in mind, Herefrith will eventually betray you, and his Order of the Ancients connection will come out later.

After Acha gives you the rundown, take a moment to mingle with the other council members in the town hall. They're scattered around the room, each with a little chat bubble above their head. If you want to make sure you've chatted with everyone, just whip out Odin's Sight to highlight them. When you're all set to cast your vote, head over to the western side of the room. You'll see three banners representing Aelfgar, Hunwald, and Herefrith. Go up to the bowls there and interact with them to kick off a cutscene.

During this cutscene, you'll get to weigh the pros and cons of voting for each candidate before you make your decision. If you end up voting for Herefrith, the quest will conclude right there. If you pick anyone else, you'll have to deal with Herefrith's soldiers in a fight.
