In the Absence of an Ealdorman

Speak with the Sisters at the Church’s Hospice: Find the hospice east of the town hall. Climb to the roof and enter the courtyard to avoid guards. Use Odin’s Sight to find individuals to speak with. Follow the head sister to a secluded area to learn that Hunwald’s father may be at the bathhouse.

Investigate the Old Lincoln Sewers beneath the Bathhouse: The bathhouse is heavily guarded. Enter from above, clear the guards, and destroy the wooden barricade to enter the sewers. Navigate the tunnels, assassinating guards quietly. In a large chamber, use Odin’s Sight to locate and eliminate guards. Loot a chest on the western side for a Nickel Ingot and another on the eastern side for the unique Longbow weapon. Continue east through the sewers to reach Roaring Meg’s Spring.

Examine Evidence at Roaring Meg’s Spring: Investigate the scene, examining the dead body and the noble’s cloak. Find a key in the body of water northwest of the spring (where the waterfall flows) to unlock a door to the north. Examine the note behind the door to trigger a scene. The next objective is Bolingbroc Castle, east of Lincoln.

Find Ealdorman Hundbeorht at Bolingbroc Castle: Approach the castle from the southwest. To access the keep, lower the drawbridge by shooting the link mechanisms on either side. It is recommended to clear out guards for XP and loot. Locate a Standard-Bearer in the south to loot a key for inner wall access. Inside the inner walls, find a chest in a barn-like structure containing the unique Galloglach Trousers.

Infiltrate the Keep: Inside the keep, deal with guards and a Goliath elite unit. Use fire pots to set the floor ablaze. Loot the Goliath for a Nickel Ingot. Collect the book of knowledge for the Focus of the Nornir ability and a Note from the Crozier (Order of Ancients clue) from a table.

Retrieve the Brooch: Head north from the keep's looted room and descend the steps. Speak with the woman cleaning the floor to initiate a cutscene with dialogue options. After the cutscene, find a brooch in a box by a table on the southern side of the room to prove Hundbeorht’s death.

Present the Brooch to Hunwald: Return to the town hall in Lincoln and present the brooch to Hunwald to complete the quest.
