Learn about the Magic Deceiver archetype in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, including its Magic Fusion ability and subclasses like Fake Celebrity and Living Deity.

The Magic Deceiver archetype in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous fuses known magic into novel combinations. It gains the Magic Fusion ability and must select a subclass. It does not get an Arcane Reservoir or Arcanist Exploits and can only cast spells up to 6th level.

Magic Fusion

A Magic Deceiver may craft up to 10 new spells by combining the effects and characteristics of two spells that they know. The following rules apply:

  • The level of the new spell is the higher level of the component spells.
  • The DC (Difficulty Class) of the new spell is the higher DC of the component spells.
  • The school is either of the component spells' schools.
  • Spell Focus and/or Elemental Focus apply to the resulting spell DC.
  • If both component spells target different saving throws, you may choose which saving throw to target.
  • The shape is either of the component spells' shape (single target, line, cone, burst).
  • The fused spell cannot have metamagic applied to it.
  • A spell which has had metamagic applied cannot be a component spell.

Ways of the Deceiver

At 1st level, a Magic Deceiver must choose one of six subclasses: Fake Celebrity, Living Deity, Magic Inventor, Razmiri Infiltrator, Time Manipulator or Way of the Charlatan.

Fake Celebrity

A Fake Celebrity uses her performance to weaken enemies. She gains the Inhibit Courage ability at 1st level, Trick Magic at 2nd level, Spell Fabrication at 4th level, Inhibit Greatness at 12th level, and Inhibit Heroics at 20th level.

Inhibit Courage

From 1st level, a Fake Celebrity can use her performance to inflict a -1 penalty on attack and damage rolls and saving throws against charm and fear effects. At 5th level and every six subsequent levels, this penalty increases by -1 to a maximum of -4 at 17th level. She can use this ability for a number of rounds equal to her class level + her Charisma modifier. Fake Celebrity performance abilities benefit from the Extra Performance and Lingering Performance feats but not from the Mythic Inspiration ability.

Trick Magic

From 2nd level, a Fake Celebrity gains a bonus to concentration checks equal to the number of ranks she has in Persuasion.

Spell Fabrication

From 4th level, a Fake Celebrity can fabricate a spell from her spell book by making a Persuasion (Bluff) check (DC = 10 + twice the spell level). She can use this ability once per day plus an additional time for every four additional levels (maximum five times per day as 20th level).

Inhibit Greatness

From 12th level, a Fake Celebrity can use her performance to inflict a -2 penalty to attack rolls, a -1 penalty to saving throws and a -3 penalty to caster level checks to overcome spell resistance. At 17th level, the caster level penalty increases to -4.

Inhibit Heroics

From 20th level, a Fake Celebrity can use her performance to inflict a -4 penalty to AC (Armor Class) and saving throws.

Living Deity

A Living Deity pretends that her mysterious powers make her a living god. She gains Mysterious Gift (Mystery and Curse) at 0 level, Mysterious Gift at 1st level, Pious Guile at 2nd level, and Revelation at 4th, 12th, and 20th levels. She also gains Final Revelation at 20th level and Hollow Spark at 20th level.

Mysterious Gift

A Living Deity can only be an Atheist. She gains an Oracle's Mystery and Curse class features (although she receives no benefits from the curse when levelling up). Her Charisma attribute is used for Lore (Religion) checks.

Mysterious Gift - Mystery

A Living Deity must select a Mystery and receives Revelations appropriate to the Mystery at 1st, 4th, 12th and 20th levels along with the Final Revelation.

Mysterious Gift - Curse

A Living Deity must select a curse from the Oracle list. If you take the Pranked curse, you do not receive the Faerie Fire spell. A Living Deity's curse does not unlock the Beneficial Curse Mythic ability.

Pious Guile

From 2nd level, a Living Deity gains a bonus to concentration checks equal to the number of ranks she has in Lore (Religion).

Godly Fraud

From 12th level, a Living Deity receives a bonus to caster level checks to overcome spell resistance equal to half the number of ranks she has in Lore (Religion).
