Spellbook

A Living Grimoire receives the same number of spell slots per day as a Warpriest of the same level and may prepare any spells that he knows. At 1st level, he knows three 1st level spells plus a number equal to his Intelligence modifier. At each new level up, he may select an additional two spells to learn.

The Living Grimoire uses Intelligence in place of his Wisdom to determine the DC and number of uses of domain abilities.

Holy Book

A Living Grimoire can manifest a large, heavy book in his hand and can use it as a weapon. It deals damage as a cold iron light mace and the character gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls. The Living Grimoire gains the bonuses of the Warpriest Sacred Weapon ability with the book.

Sacred Word

From 4th level, a Warpriest can enhance his holy book as a swift action. For every four additional levels, he can add an additional +1 enhancement (maximum +5 at 20th level). He can use this ability for a total number of minutes per day equal to half his class level + his Wisdom modifier. Rather than adding an enhancement bonus, a Living Grimoire can add properties to the book for a certain point cost:

  • Bane — +1
  • Flaming
  • Frost
  • Shock
  • Keen
  • Flaming Burst — +2
  • Icy Burst
  • Shocking Burst
  • Anarchic
  • Axiomatic
  • Holy
  • Unholy
  • Brilliant Energy — +4

Blessed Script

From 5th level, after hitting an enemy with his holy book, the caster level and DC of a Living Grimoire's next spell are increased by +1. At 10th and 16th levels, this total increases by an additional +1.

Whenever the Living Grimoire casts a spell, his holy book gains the bane weapon special ability for 2 rounds. At 10th level, the critical multiplier increases to x3 for 2 rounds. Finally, at 16th level, each successful hit with the holy book within the next 2 rounds after casting a spell applies the effects of the Crushing Despair spell for one minute.

Word of God

At 20th level, up to 7 times per day, a Living Grimoire can smite an enemy within 50'. The target must make a Fortitude save (DC = 20 + INT modifier or die). If the Living Grimoire cast a spell in the previous round, the DC increases by +4. If the target makes its save, it takes 10d6 divine damage.

If the Living Grimoire kills an enemy with this ability, he gains a stacking +1 bonus to spell resistance checks and damage rolls with the holy book for the rest of the day.
