Learn about Armor and Shield Feats in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, including proficiency, focus, and special abilities like Missile Shield.

Armor Proficiency (Light Armor)

You become proficient with Light Armor. All classes apart from Arcanists (all), Instinctual Warriors, Ecclesitheurges, Monks (all but Sohei), Eldritch Scoundrels, Sword Saints, Sorcerers (all), Witches (all) and Wizards (all) receive this feat automatically.

Armor Proficiency (Medium Armor)

You become proficient with Medium Armor. Barbarians (not Instinctual Warrior), Bloodragers (all), Cavaliers (all), Clerics (not Ecclesitheurge), Druids (all), Fighters (all), Hunters (all), Inquisitors (all), Armored Battlemages, Oracles (all), Paladins (all), Rangers (all), Shamans (all), Shifters (all), Skalds (all), Slayers (not Stygian Slayer) and Warpriests (not Cult Leader) gain this proficiency automatically. Maguses other than Spelldancers and Sword Saints gain the ability to wear medium armour at level 7.

Armor Proficiency (Heavy Armor)

You become proficient with Heavy Armor. Armored Hulks, Steelbloods, Cavaliers (not Beast Rider), Fighters (all), Paladins (not Divine Hunter), Warpriests (not Cult Leader) and the Hellknight Signifer prestige class gain this proficiency automatically. An Armored Battlemage gains the ability to wear heavy armour at level 7 while most other Magus archetypes gain the ability at level 13.

Armor Focus

Select one type of armour (light, medium, or heavy) and gain +1 AC (Armor Class) when wearing that type of armour.

Armor Proficiency (Light Barding)

Your companion becomes proficient with Light Barding.

Armor Proficiency (Medium Barding)

Your companion becomes proficient with Medium Barding.

Armor Proficiency (Heavy Barding)

Your companion becomes proficient with Heavy Barding.

Shield Proficiency

You become proficient with Bucklers, Light Shields and Heavy Shields. Barbarians (all), Bards (all), Bloodragers (all), Cavaliers (all), Clerics (not Ecclesitheurge), Druids (all), Fighters (all), Hunters (all), Inquisitors (all), Oracles (all), Paladins (all), Rangers (all), Shifters (all), Skalds (all) and Warpriests (not Cult Leader) gain this proficiency automatically.

Tower Shield Proficiency

You become proficient with Tower Shields. Only Fighters receive this feat automatically.

Shield Focus

The AC bonus granted by your shield increases by +1.

Greater Shield Focus

The AC bonus granted by your shield increases by an additional +1.

Missile Shield

When equipped with a shield and not flat-footed (lacking a Dexterity bonus to AC), you may deflect one ranged weapon attack once per round.

Ray Shield

When using a light, heavy or tower shield, add your shield bonus (not including enhancement bonuses) to your touch AC (Armor Class based on Dexterity).

Shield Bash

You may attack with light and heavy shields. A light shield deals 1-3 damage and is considered a light weapon. A heavy shield deals 1-4 damage. Two-weapon fighting penalties apply to the shield attack.

Stumbling Bash

Creatures struck by your shield bash take a -2 penalty to their AC for 1 round.

Toppling Bash

Once per round when you hit a creature with shield bash, you can make a trip combat manoeuvre at -5 penalty. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

Shield Master

You don't suffer penalties to your attack rolls made with a shield and the shield's enhancement bonus is added to attack and damage rolls.

Bashing Finish

When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon, you can make a shield bash attack against the same target as a free action using the same attack bonus.

Tips
  • Consider the specific class abilities when choosing armor proficiency feats, as many classes gain proficiencies automatically.
  • Shield Master is a powerful feat for shield bash builds, removing penalties and adding bonuses to attack and damage.
  • Ray Shield significantly boosts your touch AC against certain attacks, making it valuable for characters who rely on shields for defense.
