Defeat the Devil of the Reed Field
Before the fight, stock up on cooked meat. The Butchery offers more meat and poultry at 0:00 each night. Hunting animals like deer can also provide meat. It is recommended to have a substantial supply, potentially up to 100 Grilled Meats if you are not proficient at parrying.
Consider upgrading your armor to withstand attacks, as this is a challenging boss. Purchase plate armor from the merchant in Hernand town and upgrade it at the blacksmith.
Head to the highlighted mission marker to begin the fight, which consists of three phases.
Phase 1 – One on One
Learn the Devil's moveset. Most attacks can be parried by pressing Square / X / Left Click while moving the Left Stick toward the Devil. The Devil's lunging slash attack must be dodged. Successful parries build a gauge below the Devil's health bar and can stagger him, creating an opening for combos. Light attacks do not consume stamina. You can heal by holding Options / Menu / Esc and then tapping Square / X / Left Click. You can heal while performing other actions, including light attacks.
Continue parrying to fill the stamina bar under the health bar, which will break the Devil's guard, leaving him open for 2 to 3 combos.
Phase 2 – Scarecrows
This phase spawns 5 Scarecrows, marked with orange dots on the minimap showing nearby areas and points of interest), and 4 clones of the Devil. Destroy all 5 Scarecrows by attacking them. Be mindful of your health as all 5 Devils will attack simultaneously. Dodging (Circle / B / Space) is crucial. Attack the Scarecrows during openings and heal when necessary, as multiple Devils attacking can quickly defeat you.
After defeating all Scarecrows, 3 Devils will disappear. Focus damage on the remaining Devil to proceed to phase 3.
Phase 3 – One on Two
Fight the Devil similarly to Phase 1, but with a second Devil appearing randomly after certain combos. This makes healing and conserving stamina more difficult. The Devil also gains a new move where he attacks with several red energy waves that travel in a straight line; evade these by rolling left or right. Continue using parry techniques to build the stamina bar and break his guard for combos.
Deplete the health bar again to complete the fight.
