Learn how to upgrade weapons and armor in Crimson Desert at the blacksmith. Discover material requirements for Plate Armor, Wooden Shields, and Jewelry.

In Crimson Desert, you can upgrade your equipment at the blacksmith. Weapons, Armor Pieces, and Jewelry can all be upgraded through a system called “Refinement”, which has 10 levels per item. The blacksmith is located in the middle of Hernand town, the starting town.

Upgrading gear is crucial for facing bosses. You can check Refinement Levels and required materials by selecting “Inspect” in your inventory and then clicking “Refinement Information”.

Materials and How to Obtain Them:

  • Plate Armor & Weapons require ores like Iron Ore and Copper Ore. You need a Pickaxe, obtainable from the Provisioner’s Shop, to mine ore deposits found on mountain walls. Alternatively, use Force Palm to break ore deposits.
  • Wooden Shields require Wood. You need an axe, also from the Provisioner’s Shop, to fell trees.
  • Leather Armor and Jewelry require Hides and Bones. Hunt animals in the woods and skin them.
  • Soft clothes require Cloth Pieces and Fleece. These can be purchased from the Provisoner’s Shop or found as loot from bandits and other enemies.

Plate Armor offers better defense than Leather/Soft Armor and is recommended. You can buy it from the vendor directly in front of the blacksmith. The starting wooden shield is also decent and can be upgraded by felling trees.

Tips
  • Upgrading your gear early on is highly recommended to improve your chances against bosses.
  • The Pickaxe and Axe can be purchased from the Provisioner’s Shop, located across from the blacksmith.
