Learn about distractions, the inventory menu, disguises, Enforcers, and how attention and spotting work in Hitman World of Assassination. Essential tips for stealth.
This section covers essential mechanics for navigating Hitman World of Assassination, including effective use of distractions, managing your inventory, understanding disguises and Enforcers, and how the attention and spotting systems work.
Distractions
Devices can be used to lure NPCs without moving. Opening and closing doors can also be used to draw people into a desired location. When an NPC is distracted, they will return to their original position and restart their routine, which can be useful for resetting timed actions.
Inventory Menu
Access the Inventory Menu by pressing left or right on the D-Pad. Select an item to equip it, or cancel to exit without selecting. Items can also be dropped from the menu. To holster an item in your hand, press up on the D-Pad. Pressing down on the D-Pad will bring it back out, allowing for quick attacks.
Disguises
Disguises are crucial for accessing restricted areas and approaching targets. They are typically acquired by incapacitating an NPC and taking their clothes, though some may be found lying around. NPCs wearing the same disguise will generally not suspect you. However, some NPCs, known as 'Enforcers,' can see through your disguise and must be avoided. A 'master disguise' can allow access to most of the map without suspicion, making playthroughs easier.
Note: Enforcers are listed for each disguise and difficulty level. Enforcers within restricted areas you are not allowed in are generally not listed, as entering such an area makes everyone an Enforcer. Exceptions are made for Enforcers who overlook allowed areas.
Attention, NPC Icons, and Spotted
When in restricted areas or near Enforcers while disguised, a partial ring may appear, indicating you are attracting attention. The longer you are observed, the more the ring turns yellow. A white dot above an NPC's head (NPC Icon) signifies a potential threat, and these Enforcers appear as white dots on the mini-map. Blending in can reduce attention, turning the dot above the observer into a white circle.
As attention increases, the NPC Icon dot grows larger. If the attention meter fills, you will be 'Spotted,' and the NPC Icon will change to a '!'. If a Guard spots you:
- If you are moving away, the Guard may follow to arrest you. You can perform a 'Fake Surrender' to initiate a fight where you can knock them out. If you move far enough away quickly, pursuit will cease.
- If you are standing still and not acting threateningly, the Guard will escort you to an acceptable area.
- If you are spotted while subduing or killing someone, or carrying an exposed weapon, the Guard becomes 'Hostile' and will shoot at you.
If Guards become Hostile, moving far enough away may end pursuit. However, approaching them again will result in immediate recognition and hostility. If a group of Hostile Guards stops pursuing you and returns to their posts, they are less likely to alert other Guards unless they are still actively chasing you.
