Master Hitman World of Assassination difficulties: Casual, Professional, and Master. Learn about tiered challenges, Silent Assassin, and the strategic use of Briefcases.
This section details the difficulty settings and challenge system in Hitman World of Assassination, along with an explanation of the Briefcase mechanic.
Casual Difficulty: Offers unlimited saves, all Mission Stories available, no security cameras, fewer enforcers for disguises, easier combat, and more items on the map. Guards can carry sniper rifles openly.
Professional Difficulty: A moderate setting with unlimited saves, all Mission Stories available, security cameras active (and acting as enforcers), more enforcers for disguises, harder combat, fewer items than Casual, and guards cannot carry sniper rifles openly (must use a briefcase). This is similar to Normal in Season One, with added camera enforcers and harder combat.
Master Difficulty: The hardest setting with only one manual save, no Mission Story guides, more security cameras, even more enforcers, significantly harder combat where players are easily killed, fewer items than Casual and Professional. Disguises must be taken from NPCs, bloody kills ruin disguises, and NPCs are more attentive to sounds. This is similar to Professional in Season One, though NPCs and guards are less sensitive to sounds and actions, and guards won't investigate destroyed cameras.
Tiered Challenges
In Season One, Professional difficulty had its own challenges. In Hitman 2, only a few challenges are tied to difficulty, known as The Classics: Silent Assassin, Silent Assassin Suit Only, No Evidence, Suit Only, and Sniper Assassin. Other challenges can be completed on any difficulty, though Casual is recommended for ease.
Challenges are stackable. Completing a mission on Master and achieving Silent Assassin will also grant the Casual and Professional versions if not already completed. Additional challenges exist for obtaining all Classics on a given difficulty.
Briefcases
Briefcases are a new addition to Hitman 2, with variants earned through challenges. They have specific uses and limitations:
- Only one item can be placed inside, regardless of size.
- Can be brought when planning and carried when wearing a regular or earned Suit.
- Large un-holsterable items like Battle Axes cannot fit, but smaller ones like Hatchets can.
- If carrying an illegal item, a Frisk Zone search will include the briefcase. To bypass this, place the briefcase on the ground, let the guard search you, then pick it up and proceed.
- If found by guards, it's taken to the nearest Weapons Box. If found by a civilian, they give it to a guard, which can be used to smuggle items into forbidden areas.
- The Briefcase is an effective melee and thrown weapon.
- It can be used as a mine: place a mine, pick it up to access the Detonator, place the mine inside the briefcase, and drop it to detonate. This works with gas mines as well.
