Learn how to save Vanra in Baldur's Gate 3 with our walkthrough. Discover methods like crafting Hag's Bane or fighting Auntie Ethel, and resolve bugs.
Walkthrough
- 1Visit Old Garlow's Place: This is a key location where you can find Mayrina and a Cleric. Complete the mini-quest here to obtain the keys to a safe. Inside the safe is a book containing the recipe for Hag's Bane.
- 2Method 1: Craft Hag's Bane Potion: Craft the potion using the learned recipe. You can then throw this potion at Auntie Ethel (even while she's disguised as Captain), causing her to regurgitate Vanra and allowing for a rescue.
- 3Method 2: Confront Auntie Ethel: Go to the Blushing Mermaid Pub and speak with the drunk captain. She will reveal herself as Auntie Ethel. Follow her into the cellar behind a hidden wall. Here you will find patrons and Captain Grisly wearing mind-control masks. You can choose to kill them or spare them and proceed to the back room to fight the Hag.
- 4Boss Fight Strategy: When fighting the Hag, use your martial characters to attack. Crucially, toggle on the Non-Lethal Option in your UI's passives menu. Ensure the final blow is dealt with this option enabled.
- 5Extract Vanra: After defeating the Hag (or knocking her out non-lethally), you must cut out Vanra to save her. Warning: If you kill the Hag without extracting Vanra, she will die, and the quest will fail.
- 6Destroy Mushrooms: Before engaging the Hag, ensure you defeat all the mushrooms in the area. If you kill or knock out the Hag before destroying the mushrooms, she will respawn.
- 7Quest Completion: Return to Lora in her house and inform her of Vanra's rescue. She will reward you with the legendary rapier, Duellist's Prerogative.
Tips
- Captain Grisly Bug: If Captain Grisly doesn't transform into Auntie Ethel after speaking to her, reload a save from before the conversation. Check her health bar; if it's 0, heal her with a spell or potion. Then, speak to her again to trigger the transformation cutscene. This may lead to a fight with Rednaps disguised as patrons.
- Saving Captain Grisly: It is possible to save Captain Grisly and her crew. In the cellar fight, focus on knocking out the masked adds non-lethally. However, this can be buggy, and you might still hear voice lines indicating their death.
