Discover the special elixirs from Araj Oblodra in Baldur's Gate 3 by giving blood. Learn about Astarion's choices and how to maintain your romance after he bites her.
Here are the special elixirs you can get for giving Araj Oblodra your character’s and party members’ blood. Araj Oblodra has a special feature where she can craft a potion for each character in your party. You can only do this once. It will typically take around 3HP from your character, but depending on the race, you get one of the following:
- Elixir of Dragonborn Prowess — Advantage on Persuasion Checks, resistance to the type of Dragonborn used for blood, and cast an appropriate 3rd level spell on that dragon’s subrace (e.g., Lightning Bolt for Bronze and Blue Dragons).
- Elixir of Dwarven Resiliance — Add your Proficiency Bonus to Saving Throws until you succeed on 3 of them or take a Long Rest.
- Elixir of Elven Elegance — Grants an additional 10m movement speed, Darkvision, and immunity to charm until your next Long Rest.
- Elixir of Githyanki Providence — Cast Misty Step, Invigorating Leap, and Blur once each until your next Long Rest.
- Elixir of Gnomish Ingenuity — Proficiency in Sleight of Hand Checks and cast Knock until your next Long Rest.
- Elixir of Half Elven Healing — Upon Consumption, you and your surrounding allies regain hit points equal to your constitution score.
- Elixir of Half Orcish Fury — When Downed before your next Long Rest, you instead drop to 1 hit point.
- Elixir of Halfling Luck — Advantage on Skill Checks until your next long rest.
- Elixir of Tiefling Vice — Cast Thaumaturgy, Hellish Rebuke, Burning Hands, and Flame Blade once each until your next Long Rest.
- Elixir of Human Versatility — Proficiency in all Skills until the next Long Rest.
As you can see, all of the Araj Oblodra items are incredibly niche, yet some of them do have their benefits when used in combat at the right time. So, these are worth grabbing when possible, especially the Dragonborn, Elven, Dwarven and Half-Orc ones, thanks to the cheese factor you can get from those elixirs.
Astarion Choices with Araj Oblodra
You can make Astarion bite the girl, but he will not like you for it. Once you’re done with getting your blood items, she will reveal she is interested in meeting Astarion. If you bring Astarion to her, she will ask him if she can bite him. Astarion is very confused by this, as he normally has to hide his vampire behaviour. Yet, Astarion suspects something is afoot. He believes that there’s something off about her blood and doesn’t want to do it. Yet, if you get Astarion to do it, then there’s an elixir that permanently gives the consumer +2 Strength.
If you convince Astarion to bite her, you will get the elixir for the trade. Yet, Astarion will disapprove of the decision. If you don’t convince him to bite her, then Astarion approves, yet you lose access to that Elixir. So, the choice is yours.
If you force Astarion to bite Araj Oblodra, he’ll confront you at camp the next time you long rest, and if you’re not careful, he’ll break up with you.
How to Keep Astarion from Breaking Up With You After Araj Oblodra
If you’ve started a romance with Astarion, convincing him to bite Araj Oblodra can prove terminal to your relationship. While his whining about Araj Oblodra seems like standard Astarion fare, it’s actually far more serious than it seems, as Astarion resents being used for the gain of others. The next time you take a long rest, Astarion will complain about the unpleasant episode again, and if you want to keep your romance alive, you’ll have to make the following replies:
- “I hope you’re all right.”
- “You can still throw your body at me, any time.”
- “How do you want me to see you?”
- “I care about you.”
- Open your mind so he sees you care.
With a little help from the parasite that threatens your very existence and some smooth talking you can turn this betrayal into a bonding moment. Thanks tadpole!
