Its primary purpose is to help players avoid prolonged periods of bad luck by intervening when rolls are consistently low in dialogue checks or combat. Conversely, it can also force failures if a player is on a lucky streak of high rolls.

It's important to note that Karmic Dice affects enemies as well. If a group of enemies experiences a string of failed rolls, Karmic Dice may ensure they succeed. Similarly, their lucky streaks can also be broken.

Should You Turn Karmic Dice On or Off in BG3?

The Karmic Dice feature can potentially work against certain character builds. For instance, a tank character with a high AC (Armor Class) is designed to absorb hits, causing enemies to miss. With Karmic Dice on, if this tank consistently succeeds in AC checks, the feature might guarantee they are hit a certain number of times to break the streak.

Turning Karmic Dice on might be considered if you wish to avoid save scumming. Save scumming involves saving your game before important encounters to reload if things go poorly. If you are comfortable with this practice, the Karmic Dice feature may offer little advantage and could detract from the experience by artificially altering outcomes for both you and your enemies.

The setting is found in the main menu under regular options settings. Navigate to the options settings, locate the Karmic Dice setting under User Options, and untick the box to disable it.

The in-game menu describes the setting as: “Karmic dice avoid failure or success streaks, while keeping the results mostly random.” Despite this description, if you are willing to save scum, there is little benefit to using Karmic Dice, as it can diminish the natural ebb and flow of luck.

How to Turn Karmic Dice On or Off in BG3

Karmic Dice is enabled by default for your first playthrough. To turn it off, go to the main gameplay settings, find “User Options,” and untick the Karmic Dice box. Disabling it returns the game to its default experience where RNG (Random Number Generation) dictates outcomes without artificial intervention, allowing your gear and stats to determine success based on probability.
